Many people want to work in one of the most high paying jobs but some may not know where to begin or they may lack the confidence to follow through and apply. The most important thing is that the job seeker learn as much as they can about the duties of the job, work environment, and salary. Sometimes, this information can be enough to give people an idea as to whether or not the job is for them. The high paying jobs that I will discuss here require some level of college education.

A popular high paying job is that of an Engineer. There are many types who work in different industries, but your best bet is to enjoy and do well with math and science. Starting salaries often begin between $50,000 to well over $60,000 for certain positions such as Chemical Engineers. Electrical Engineers will require a different skill set and may be required to travel to different work sites or buildings on a daily basis whereas some Software Engineers may find their range limited to one office or cubicle on a daily basis. If you were to choose a position as an Engineer, your salary could very well exceed $100,000 for a specialty such as Aerospace or if you were to become an Engineering Manager.

For those who enjoy finance, a career with an Economics degree could be something that lands you one of the most high paying jobs. The starting salaries for those with this degree typically start around $50,000. At the middle of your career in this field, you can expect to earn nearly $100,000 annually. Another benefit to having this degree is that you would be able to find work in a variety of fields working for the government, for non-profits, or non-profits and will have the choice to work nearly anywhere in the country. Another option for an Economics major is Actuary. Actuaries figure out the level of risk involved in a variety of things related to finance and forecast the possibility of various outcomes and their effects on the bottom line. There will be a fairly large amount of growth in this field over the next several years.

If you enjoy helping others in the healthcare industry, perhaps Nursing could be a good choice for you. This field offers flexible schedules and salaries starting out at the mid to high $40,000 range and at times can be fast paced. This is a career that can lead to a six figure position if you wish to go into administration or if you become a Certified Registered Nurse of Anesthesia. Becoming a CRNA will require more education beyond a Bachelors but it can be well worth it as most CRNA's earn as much as doctors while working a forty hour work week. Another benefit for the CRNA is that they will be able to focus on one patient at a time as opposed to multiple patients in the traditional nursing role. For the creative types, Graphic Design is a popular career choice. Their job is to communicate clearly in various forms of media such as web, print, and animation. Many graphic designers work for employers but there is a large number who are self employed. Salaries in this field range from $60,000 to about $100,000 each year.

An important aspect of being able to choose from the most high paying jobs, is determining the amount that you will earn with your chosen major and if you will be finishing college with any debt. If you finish school with debt, make sure your debt doesn't exceed the salary of your chosen major so that you will not be burdened with excessive debt loads and research the employment outlook for your chosen career to make a choice that you'll be happy with for years to come.
